Do you love eggs and omelets? I do! I used to eat them constantly, nearly every day as a matter of fact. Now I try to be more balanced about eating eggs, limiting it to a few times a week at most, sometimes scrambling just the egg whites so I can manage my cholesterol a bit better. I think I enjoy eggs because they’re satisfying without being to filling, and also because they taste just as good for breakfast as they do for dinner. Sometimes I come home from work and I just crave a cheese omelet with a slice of whole grain toast. My favorite stainless steel frying pan is just the right size for a small, personal size omelet.

This particular piece of stainless steel cookware is part of a 3 piece pan set that I bought a few years ago. I use the pans constantly for everything from searing a steak, frying chicken, and making homemade sauces. The trick to a good frying pan is to buy a quality pan from the start and then taking good care of it. If you use the right utensils in them and wash them according to their instructions, your pans will last you for a good many years and work as well as the first day you purchased them.

When I buy things for my home, I really try not to buy too much junk. I have enough stuff that I bought on impulse that turned out to be pretty useless. Now that I’m wiser consumer, I think about my purchases more. For instance, is it something I really like? Will it be something I’ll get a lot of use from or is it just something that caught my eye. Some people who are into organizing say if it isn’t useful or if you don’t love it, you should just get rid of it. Easy to say, but the sentimental stuff is tricky. When I buy things for the kitchen, I try to by things that might serve multiple purposes, like this Revere Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl Set that I purchased recently.

These handy bowls can serve multiple purposes. While I did primarily by the mixing bowl set for my baking and cooking, they’re also good for other tasks as well. The three stainless bowls come with matching plastic lids, so I can use them for food preparation and food storage as well. They’re attractive enough that they also look good as serving bowls for chips or on my counter top as a fruit bowl. Since they were such a reasonable price, I’m pretty pleased with my latest purchase.

I really enjoy cooking and tend to do a lot of stove top cooking, especially over the weekends when we have more family time. It might mean making a big breakfast omelet on Sunday, grilling sandwiches for lunch on Saturday, or searing a juicy steak at dinner. I do find that I end up using multiple pans for these tasks, like my 10 inch nonstick open fry pan or my cast iron grill pan. I had been considering getting a new pan for awhile, perhaps a slightly bigger pan and one with a lid. Then when I was browsing the web recently I came across this great Rachael Ray Porcelain Enamel 12 Inch Saute Pan.

This is a nice deep saute pan with a 6 quart capacity and a tight-fitting glass lid. It has a quality nonstick interior with a beautiful porcelain exterior, so the whole pan is really easy to clean. It also has a comfortable silicone covered handle and the pan itself is oven safe to 400 degrees if I need to keep something warm while I cook additional dishes. I really like this pan’s large capacity, it’s glass lid, and it’s quality design – so it looks like I have found the best saute pan for me.

Don’t you love having new cookware? The new pots are so shiny and unblemished, the pans haven’t been scratched or dinged by someone trying to force them into the cabinet to fast or washing them with the wrong scouring pad. Of course the best thing about new cookware is how nice the finish is and how easy it is to cook in, especially if you buy a quality set that is made to last. I was shopping for a new set that my sister and I are planning to buy for my niece as a housewarming gift and came across this great Classic 11 Piece Stainless Steel Cookware Set.

I think she will love this set. It has 3 covered saucepans, a steamer insert, a nice-sized Dutch oven, and 2 open fry pans. The pots and pans have a nice modern flair and include attractive tempered glass lids too. More importantly, the cookware is made of durable 18/10 stainless steel with an encapsulated aluminum core bottom for even heat distribution. Plus it’s protected by the manufacturer’s 25 year warranty. I think stainless steel cookware sets make a great housewarming gift, I sure would have loved one like this for my first home.

Talk about an easy recipe! And fragrant and delicious… this crockpot apple butter has it all. With just five ingredients, you can have little jars of apple butter in your refrigerator by nightfall. We start our crockpot going early in the morning, so that we have a finished batch ready to spoon over ice cream after dinner. Then we put the rest in jars in the refrigerator to spread on toasted English muffins in the morning. I must say, one batch doesn’t last very long in our house, between desserts and breakfast.

Once you get beyond using your crockpot for roasts and stews, there are many interesting crockpot recipesto try. Brave crockpot cooks have been developing all sorts of unique recipes for the adventurous soul. This Apple Butter is one such case. Cooking apples down with just sugar and spices is possible in your crockpot because you never have to worry about a pot boiling or the sugar scorching, and the crockpot method really makes the flavor intense, which is what you want in your Apple Butter. I think I’ll get my crockpot ready for a second batch right away.

There are a lot of bakers in my family. My grandmother’s family had a bakery when she was growing up and so she was an incredible baker. She always had the magic touch, perfect pastries and cookies – it was amazing. Never burned a cookie bottom and somehow even her chocolate chip cookies were the best I ever tasted. I’ve tried to duplicate them and come close, but just not quite. I can clearly recall her bakeware and I would have loved to see her bake her goodies using a silicone bakeware set.

She would have gotten a big kick out of this new kind of bakeware, so very different than the metal pans and cookie sheets, though it still produces great results. This set from Baker’s Secret is durable enough to use in the oven and wash in the dishwasher, and can withstand both microwave cooking and freezer storage. Plus it’s the flexibility is wonderful for easy cake release. It has 2 baking sheets, a square cake pan, a muffin pan and a round cake pan. These baking pans will be handy for holiday baking, and they’d even make a great holiday gift too!

It’s almost fall and finally time to get back to my stew recipes. I love to cook and eat them, but they just don’t work for our family during the hot summer months. One of the first recipes I have to make this time of the year is my favorite, super easy lentil stew. It cooks up faster than just about any other type of stew since lentils are so small and get tender fast. We also like it because it is a hardy meal that’s very affordable because it doesn’t have any meat in it.

If you like bean and lentil recipes, this one should definitely become part of your collection. Even if you aren’t usually a fan of lentils, I’d encourage you to give this simple recipe a try. It’s not your usual lentil recipe and with the other flavors blending together with the lentils in the stewing process, the result is a thick and yummy soup, perfect with a piece of homemade bread or a plain muffin. In case you have any leftovers (I seriously doubt you will), this stew freezes well.
